As of September 1, 2009, Vermont law permits marriages for all couples. All are now welcome to have their engagement or their marriage ceremony here at the Chester House.

If you are planning to have a private or a small, romantic wedding, think about holding your wedding ceremony here at the Inn!

We can accommodate up to 16 overnight guests in 7 rooms at the Inn. (And we could arrange for any additional guests you might have to stay at other inns nearby.)

In the colder months, you could have your wedding ceremony in the Keeping Room, in front of our massive wood-burning fireplace.

In the warmer months, you could hold the ceremony on our inviting outdoor deck. In the Keeping Room we can accommodate 25 guests; on the deck we can seat 10 persons.
We could assist you in engaging a local Minister or a Justice of the Peace. We could also arrange for floral arrangements, a wedding cake and/or a champagne for a toast. And, if you want to have a wedding dinner, we could make arrangements for you at one of the fine restaurants in the area.

If you are planning to get married and a small romantic wedding appeals to you, please call us toll-free at (888) 875-2205 as far in advance as possible to book rooms and have us assist in making the other arrangements.

A Note About Gay Marriages

Prior to September 1, 2009, gay women and gay men were not permitted to marry in Vermont. They were, however, permitted to enter into a Civil Union, and until that date we had a separate page here on our web site for Civil Unions.

Though there is no longer any need for that separate web page, we would like to preserve a letter that it contained, written in 2001 by one of Chester’s elder local Justices of the Peace.
